Ivy Bridge采用22纳米工艺，并首次引入了英特尔的3D晶体管技术，晶体管数量由SNB的11.6亿个增加为14亿个，晶体管数量越多，可通过的电流越大。在晶体管开启高性能负载时，通过尽可能多的电流；在晶体管开启节能状态下，可将电流降至几乎为零，而且在两种状态之间快速切换，信号处理器能力极强，并且减少不必要的损耗。　　Ivy Bridge核芯显卡采用了22纳米制程工艺，这样使得在小小的芯片内能塞入更多晶体管提升核显性能；新一代HD Graphics 4000/2500核显增加了EU可编程单元，带来了更强的3D性能和游戏性能；最后，从Ivy Bridge开始，核芯显卡开始支持原生三个独立显示。　　Ivy Bridge的另一大改进就是增加了对于PCI-E 3.0的支持，其实这个在SandyBridge时代就出现了，只是这是第一次应用在移动平台上。这样一来主板上绝大部分PCI-E插槽都由CPU直联，减少了内存和芯片组的过渡，延迟更低、响应时间更短，性能也应此提升。　　Ivy Bridge首次内建了USB 3.0功能。这意味着USB 3.0未来将得到普及。
